Terms of use

The terms for using Consumed.

Last updated: 19 October 2026

These terms are between you and the person who runs Consumed, called "the administrator" here. Consumed is a small app run by one person. It is not a business, shows no ads and sells nothing. By creating an account or using Consumed you agree to these terms and to the member rules at https://beconsumed.app/rules.html.

1. Who may use Consumed

Anyone with an account may use Consumed. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You must give a real email address you can read, because that is how a forgotten password is reset. One account per person. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account.

2. What Consumed does with your data

Consumed stores your account details (email, username, display name, avatar, a hashed password or your Google account ID), the record you build (titles, statuses, progress, ratings, notes, dates, hours, goals, proposals), your friends and friend requests, the connections you choose to make to other services, your recommendation log and taste answers (private to you), and the feedback you send. A new account starts as Friends only. Your friends can see your library, ratings, profile and activity; other members see them only if you open your profile to everyone with an account, and until then they see just your username, photo and bio. Your email address, connected accounts, recommendation log and taste answers are never shown to other members. Title information comes from public catalogues; written explanations are generated by an AI service that is sent a summary of your own record to write the text. It is kept on a private server run by the administrator, with daily backups. There are no ads, no advertising or analytics cookies, and nothing is sold. The full detail, including how long things are kept and which services are involved, is on the privacy page, which is part of these terms: https://beconsumed.app/privacy.html.

3. Acceptable use

Do not use Consumed to:

You can block a member and report a member or a proposal. The administrator reads reports and may warn a member, remove content from a profile, or close an account that breaks the rules. Only the administrator reads a report; the member you report is not told it was you.

4. Generated text may be wrong

Some text in Consumed is written by an AI service: the "Why this?" explanations, the taste summary, the year recap and the assistant's replies. It is always labelled as generated. It is made from your own record and can be wrong, out of date or oddly worded, so treat it as a suggestion, not as advice. Title details, covers and ratings come from third-party catalogues and can also be wrong or missing. Recommendations are never paid for or promoted.

5. Connecting Audible

Audible has no official connection to Consumed. If you choose to connect your Audible library, the connection uses your own Amazon sign-in, which happens on Amazon's page; Consumed never sees your Amazon password. It only reads your library and your listening progress, and it never downloads or plays a book. Because this is not an official connection, it may stop working if Amazon or Audible changes how their service works, and you use it at your own discretion. You can disconnect at any time, which removes Consumed's access.

6. Your content

What you add (your record, notes, ratings, bio) stays yours. You allow Consumed to store it and to show it to the people your visibility setting allows, because that is how the service works.

7. Closing or deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time: on the website under Settings, Delete account, or in the phone app under You, Settings, Delete account, or by asking the administrator. Your account, record, connections and feedback are deleted at once; copies in backups expire within 30 days.

The administrator may close an account that breaks the member rules or these terms. A closed account is signed out everywhere; its data is kept so it can be reopened, and is deleted if you ask for that.

8. The service as it is

Consumed is run by one person, for free. It is provided as it is, with no promise that it will always be available, error-free or kept forever. Features can change or go.

Consumed is provided as it is, without any warranty of any kind, stated or implied.

To the extent the law allows, the person running Consumed is not liable for any loss or damage from using it, or from a third-party service it talks to.

9. Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a way that matters, members will see a notice in the app, as for the privacy page and the member rules. Using Consumed after a notice means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, delete your account.
